How adorable are these gold favor boxes from our Vintage NYC photoshoot? Event stylist Ara Farnam from Rock Paper Scissors Events created these beauties and walks you through how to make them yourself below. Take it away Ara! ~
You don’t have to spend a million bucks to make your favors look like a million bucks! Favors placed at each seat are a great way to add interest to your tablescape with beautiful wrapping and an additional shape and texture. You can give away any small treat in these boxes from chocolates to macaroons, to seeds or a small keepsake, and your gift will be instantly elevated with some lovely wrapping.
For our project, we purchased thick gold wrapping paper from The Container Store for about $7 (depending on the size of your guest list, you’ll need between 2-3 rolls), and each of the small 2-inch square boxes was $0.50. Each box requires 18 inches of ribbon, and similar ribbon types cost about $0.75 a yard. So your total packaging cost is close to $1 for a very luxe look! We added a small calligraphed tag (by Love, Jenna), which cost approximately $0.50-$1 each. You could also substitute a printed tag as well to cut down on costs. To adhere the tags you can sew them onto the ribbon, or take the easy way and adhere them with a single glue dot (we show both results in these photos).
TIPS to make your wrapping look fantastic:
1) Tape down your box sides so that you get a tight flat surface to work with.
2) Use double sided tape to avoid any visible tape lines on the paper.
3) Once the box is wrapped, crease or pinch the wrapped sides to get a crisp edge on each side.
4) Use ribbon with a little body to it so that you get a bouncy bow with little fuss.
This is a super easy, anyone-can-do DIY project to bring interest and elegance to your tablescape and reception in general!
